What is Open Access?

Open Access (OA) refers to the universally free access to information that is no cost to the reader. 

An item is considered Open Access if: 

  • It is free and accessible to everyone, regardless of format
  • The rights have been granted to all users, by author or copyright holder, to use, copy, or distribute as long as attribution is provided 
  • The documents are easily accessible through recognized open access repositories
