Five Ways to Engage Students to Library Collections and Support

Embedding a Library Research Guide

It takes less than 5 minutes to add a library research guide to Canvas.  Adding the guide, and directing students to use it, improves the likelihood that students will use use quality academic sources, and gives them someone to contact for further support.

To add the guide to your course in Canvas:

1.  On the left-side menu bar in  click on Settings.

2.  Click the "Apps" tab. 

3.  Click the Redirect app (blue curved arrow

4.  Click the “Add App” button.

5.  In "Name," put a name that will make sense to students, e.g., "Research Paper Help"

6.  In URL Redirect, put the guide URL, such as https://guides.sju.edu/philosophy

7.  Check the "Show in Course Navigation" box.  That should be the only box checked.

8.  Click on the red "Add App" button.

Click on Home to return to the course home page.  You will now see the guide added to the course navigation menu, just above the Settings link.  Use the student view to see how it appears for students.
