Streaming Video Resources

Overview of the streaming video content providers currently available for SJU campus members through the library.

Find streaming video at SJU

Search each collection directly for the most up-to-date listings, or use a Primo search from the library homepage to search across multiple platforms.

  • AVON (Academic Video Online), via ProQuest / Alexander Street:  70,000+ titles in a wide range of subject areas
  • Films on Demand: 35,000+ titles - full films and documentaries as well as segments from PBS, BBC Learning, HBO and more
  • Ambrose: SJU licenses a small collection, including BBC Shakespeare Plays, health & behavioral science, and entrepreneurship

To search multiple collections at once, search using Primo from the library homepage: limit Resource Type to 'Videos.'  Kanopy films are not included in Primo.  You can see a list of current Kanopy titles licensed by the SJU libraries in our Kanopy FAQ.

Additional platforms:

  • Kanopy: Library-mediated on-demand video platform, current SJU-licensed titles are listed here.  Requests for new titles on Kanopy are processed through the SJU Libraries.  Licensing is limited to use for instruction.
  • Lumière: Streaming option for select video titles held on DVD by SJU Libraries or SJU language lab.  Access managed by SJU Libraries.

Streaming Video Content From The Library

We currently have several streaming video databases accessible through the library.   You can access the main database platforms from our Databases A-Z list and from the links on the individual pages in this guide.

Each guide provides access to the specific vendor database, general content information, and any specific technical requirements for viewing videos.  Guides also provide information for creating clips of larger videos (where this option is available) and finding permanent links for the videos that can be used in Canvas course pages and modules.

Notable Features

Our streaming video content options all provide time stamped transcripts that are usually keyword searchable and hyperlinked for jumping to specific sections of the video.

All of the videos offer closed captioning options for increased accessibility.

The vendors highlighted here provide citation help that supports MLA, APA, and Chicago styles.
