SJU Libraries Collection Updates

Introduction

SJU announced the intention to vacate JW England Library by the end of the 2024-25 academic year in December 2023. Since then SJU Libraries set up the new University City Library space, the Griffith Library, in August 2024. Items that are core to the curriculum on that campus, newly purchased items, and recently borrowed items were moved into the Griffith Library. The materials that remain in England Library may be borrowed by requesting the item through the Library's Website to be picked up on any SJU campus.

The Libraries at Saint Joseph’s University will move the remainder of the print and media collection of the JW England Library to FA Drexel Library, located on the Hawk Hill Campus. The move will occur during summer 2025, beginning July 21st and ending early in August.

The library staff are in the process of shifting the Hawk Hill collections to refine the collection and allow room to interfile the JW England Library collections into Drexel Library on Hawk Hill.

When this move is done

  • Items from JW England Library will be merged into the FA Drexel Library collections.
  • The books will only be placed 6 shelves high to allow for easier access.
  • Books with A-H call numbers will be on the 3rd Floor
    • Currently 3rd Floor is A-G books and bound periodicals
  • Books with J-Z call numbers will be on the 2nd Floor
    • Currently 2nd Floor is H-P books and bound periodicals
  • Bound periodicals will be on the 1st Floor
    • Currently 1st Floor is Q-Z books and bound periodicals
  • There will be room to expand the collection where we anticipate growth to match changes in the curriculum.
  • The collection will be inventoried and the library catalog will be revised.
  • Wayfinding signage will be updated.

Note

FA Drexel Library will be closed to patrons during the move beginning July 21st.

The Post Learning Commons will remain open to patrons.

Library materials may be requested through the Library’s website for pickup in the Atrium during the move.
