SJU Libraries Collection Updates

Introduction

The library staff are engaging in a collection evaluation project to review the newly combined print monograph collection of F.A. Drexel Library and J.W. England Library. We are evaluating the collection as a whole and as separate campus libraries to support the students and curriculum now and in the future.

Purpose of the Collection Evaluation

  1. Identify overlap and unique print monographs at both libraries to inform curation of the collection. Examine the use, subject coverage, and age of the collections.
  2. Understand the subject coverage, strengths and weaknesses of the combined print monograph collection to inform collection development and curation.

In addition this project will aid two other library projects that will improve the discoverability of books for our patrons. First is to deduplicate the bibliographic records in the library's system; this will also allow the library to accurately report the number of titles the library holds. Second is to finish the reclassification of books at J.W. England Library from Dewey Decimal Classification System to Library of Congress, and reshelving the collection.
