SJU Libraries Collection Updates

Welcome

SJU Libraries are going through major changes as a result of the mergers, the closure of JW England Library, and the opening of Griffith Library.

This guide will provide information about our collections during this process.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Saint Joseph’s University Libraries is to promote lifelong learning, academic integrity, and the best possible student and faculty scholarship. The Libraries seek to provide convenient access for its users to relevant, high quality information sources and collections. In collaboration with faculty, the Libraries support and enhance curricular programs and offer instruction in the skilled use and understanding of information. The Libraries strive to create environments conducive to quiet study, purposeful research and thoughtful exchange of ideas.

Collection Development Policy

  • The SJU Libraries seek to ensure broad and timely access to academic resources across curricular areas, informed by the university’s strategic goals.
  • Liaison Librarians collaboratively build collections based on teaching and learning needs.
  • Acquisition considerations include diversity of authorship, opinion, and viewpoint; acceptable licensing terms, accessibility, and use.
  • The SJU Libraries participate in cooperative initiatives to reduce costs, improve licensing terms, and encourage use of open educational resources.
